WHAT CLOTHES TO WEAR FOR HIKING?

There are a wide variety of custom made hiking clothes available that can leave a person baffled when it comes to choosing the correct items for a hike.

Whether your'e out on a day hike or a week long trek, there are some fundamental pieces of clothing that are essential to ensure you have a comfortable experience. Lets run down the list from the sun hat on your head to the boots on your feet.

Walking around the local park with your dog doesn't require to much effort in deciding what clothes to wear.

A day long hike on a hot summer day or a longer trek in the cold of winter needs a more planned outfit.

Looking good on a hike is ok, but wearing jeans and a cotton t shirt is a hiking no no.

And that also goes for cotton socks.

Denhim and cotton are water and sweat retainers and that will make for an uncomfortable experience.

LETS FACE IT

Sun hats and Bandanas don't take up too much space in your backpack and are useful when walking on a baking hot summers day. Add to that a pair of UV sunglasses and a tube of Sunscreen and you're covered when the sun is blaring down and you're sweating from the heat.

DON'T SWEAT IT

There are Moisture Wicking Clothes available that are specifically made to release moisture and keep the body cooler, drier and better ventilated.

There are many brands on the market today.

If your'e heading out in changeable weather, you need to keep your options open for all conditions.

WARM UP AND COOL DOWN

The weather plays a big part in deciding your choice of clothing on the hike.

A short sleeve shirt made of polyester or base layer top will wick away moisture when the journey heats up.

Long sleeve tops are advisable as they protect your arms from getting scratched on overgrowth and rocks. The sleeves can of course be rolled up as you wish.

A long sleeve shirt model is a good choice as it acts as a warm layer. Popular with trekkers are the shirts made from merino wool.

A good quality fleece is a great addition for your travels.

They are a terrific midlayer top that are lightweight and comfortable.

You don't want to get caught out if the rain falls unexpectedly.

A lightweight jacket made of a synthetic material such as Primaloft is a great addition and it packs up small enough to not overload your backpack.

If you've ever gone out for a walk, looked up at the clear blue sky and decided to not bother taking along a rain jacket, you'll know that feeling of despair and stupidity when there is a sudden storm and downpour.

Check the weather forecast of course, but it's still worthwhile packing a rain jacket.

We are down to the legs and you have a few options. Wearing long pants with shorts underneath cover you for a change in temperature during your trip.

There are also zipped, long hiking pants that can be changed into shorts which many hikers are keen to wear.

COMFY FEET

Hiking socks are made from polyester materials and Marino wool that wick away moisture, keeping the feet dry and helping to prevent blisters.

Go for socks that are padded on the heel and toe and has extra arch support.
